Zebra Swag

Emerald Delight

Picture 1

Sometimes a girl just needs to throw on a pair of super tall boots and then everything will be all right. Chloe’s emerald over-the-knee suede boots are definitely show-stopper material. The neutral bandage dress is sufficiently form fitting and allows the boots to shine. Red fingerless gloves add drama and emphasize the emerald and gold jewelry. In case you are feeling more flirty, the floral bustier and ruffle skirt are amazing with those boots. Top it all off with a Matthew Williamson cropped fur coat and pick a “time of day” appropriate bag.

Trend Spot: Fall Booties – Make You Do a Double Take

It is becoming increasingly necessary to get the wardrobe in shape for the fall. In case the memo did not reach you yet… Fall 09 fashion is all about the power woman. Tough, strong and confident… “make you do a double take” – à la Missy Elliott. For designers, this translates into emphasized shoulders, short dresses showing lots of leg and (our favorite part) though girl boots. In the boot department, all shapes, sizes and materials are fair game – the edgy-er the better! You know we’re obsessed with shoes, so we will start with the ankle/ mid-calf booties and leave the uber-sexy over-the-knee styles for next time.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… you get the most wear out of your shoes if you go for a neutral color like bone, gray or brown. Forget simplicity. This time it’s all about embellishments like buckles, studs, intricate cut-out patterns and bows. The more the merrier. Get familiar with the aesthetic right here on the Zebreezy.

Gray

The style is somewhat easy to imitate. If you already have a pair of plain booties from a few seasons back, you can update them by adding the studs and buckles. Nowadays, studs are so in, you can find a skinny studded belt (like this one or this one from UO) and wrap it loosely around your ankle on the outside of the boot. The same effect is achieved and your savings will not suffer as much.

Gray

It is guaranteed that knock-offs of these styles will appear all around your favorite stores, so next time you are checking the sales, keep an eye out for the embellishments and add some 09 power to your look.

Daily Swag: Double the Trouble

LoeweLoewe 1

Apparently, Coco Chanel was of the opinion that an outfit is overdone, if one accessory is not removed at the very last minute. No disrespect to Madame Chanel, but the Zebreezy disagrees. In fact we are sometimes tempted to do the exact opposite – adding an accessory at the last minute. It looks like Loewe has jumped on the accessory band-wagon, and shows no remorse in piling them on. The gold embellishments on the skirts are reminiscent of the military trend, but their unlikely placement on the side seam of the skirt ensures they are noticed. Multicolor oversize accessories complement the blank canvas effect of an all white outfit. The brightness of the orange outfit is balanced out by the dramatic polka dot veil and intricate shoes.

The style fantasy land of polyvore allows for swagger to be turned on! Fur caplets, oversize jewelry and biker accessories are hot items for fall 2009. Add to that the cute and bold fuchsia jumper and you have yourself a knock-out.

Trend Spot: Tie-Top Pants

As hot summer days turn into chilly fall evenings, we’re looking for versatile garment that can pull a double duty. One of the summer’s trends that can easily be carried over to fall are the tie-top pants. What exactly are tie-top pants, you say? They are similar to harem pants in that they are loose, but the waist is gathered with a string, belt or bow. Depending on the fabric and the styling, they can be dressy or casual. As with other loose styles, tie-top pants are practically begging for a tucked-in shirt to emphasize the figure. Here’s some inspiration on how to add this style to your swag collection.

Roberto Cavalli keeps it loose and layered, don’t forget the heels for a feminine touch.

Matthew Williamson – always a Zebreezy favorite – is never afraid of color. Here’s a sophisticated take on tie-dye and a couple of super trendy work-appropriate looks. I still can’t get over those shoes!

Rumer Willis at Sorority Row premiere

Rumer Willis at Sorority Row premiere

I never thought there’d come a day when I would have something good to say about the very infamous Rumer Willis. But then, the universe throws up surprises when you are least expecting them. Case in point is Rumer at the premiere of her recent release- Sorority Row. In this Stella McCartney Resort 2010  outfit, she looks not only edgy and fashion-forward but also classy and elegant. Every girl’s dream come true. The skinny bottoms complement her trim figure and the stark shoulders make the entire outfit more interesting without bordering on tacky.

Good job Rumer. Mum would be proud!!

ZEBRA POINT- AWANDERING WITH ALICEX

After a brief hiatus, the Zebra Point is back with another swaggerific Zebra. We have Alice from none other than Wondeland itself. Put your hands together for AliceX In Wonderland. With a blog full of inspirational and professional-looking photographs, this lil’ fashionista is a true Zebra to the core. Now, there are innumerable reasons why we like her and we think you will too, but I am going to list just a few here. You can give us your reasons in the comments below!

We like her because:

  • She features her friends too. This girl know how to keep her friends close and her readers happy.
  • She has mastered the art of layering in color. Every outfit is a testimony to this. Bow to the master!!
  • She frequently indulges her readers with some delish food porn. This zebra’s not afraid of her grass.
  • This Zebra from the great Land of Canada almost makes me not hate tights. If you gotta do tights, at least do it right. Like AliceX .

Let’s take a trip to Wonderland. Right here, Right now.

Could you please introduce yourself and your blog?

Hiya! I’m Alice X., a 16 year old student trying to love life more everyday. My blog is called Alice in Wonderland and it’s a little piece of life that helps me vent, explore and create while interacting with others who are also on the blogosphere.

What made you start a blog, that too in the fashion genre?

There weren’t many people I knew in real life who were as interested in fashion and photography as I was and am and it gave me a chance to explore in terms of my photography and what I wear on a day to day basis. Though sheer boredom was definately part of the equation, I think a blog is a great thing to have to get your name out there as I do want to get involved in photography or fashion design later in life.

How did ‘alice in wonderland’ get its name?

Haha, this is such a funny question. Truth be told, I’ve never read the book Alice in Wonderland. It’s still on my to-do list for this summer though so hopefully I will accomplish that! Satorially speaking, I’ve been infatuated endlessly with the spreads for Vogue done by Ms. Leibovitz and the many reinterpretations of Lewis Carrol’s original character. Most of all, whenever I meet people and introduce myself, the first that comes to their mind is the famous book and it was the natural thing to call my blog after enduring so many Alice jokes.

a

What would you say is your inspiration behind this blog?

Life. The only reason I blog is to remember and share it with other people. I love taking a glimpse at other people’s days through their blogs and I think it’s more than just an interaction through outfits. My favourite bloggers are the ones who blog not only about their style and inspirations but also about their day to day lives. Blogging is a new way of documentation and sharing it with the rest of the internet world. I’m also endlessly inspired by my friends and the will to move forward in life.

al

Describe your style? What is the one thing about your style that you wish you could improve/change?

My style is the purgation of my soul. All jokes aside, my style is whatever I want it to be. It’s my feelings about myself everyday and about the world around me. I don’t think I could pin point any word that describes me perfectly. Maybe curious? I don’t know, I like to ask too many questions though. I think the most important thing about style is to feel good about everything! Whenever I put on a dress that I adore, it’s like a mood enhancing effect that lasts for the day. On the contrary, feeling sick and cold means loose jeans and a simply tee shirt. I’d like to improve my tolerance for heels. I can’t do them on a day to day basis and it amazes me that some other bloggers can. 6 inch heels make me feel so uncomfortable and trapped.

aa

Your fashion icon-

Havanna Laffitte, the stylist of most Teen Vogue photoshoots. Her styling is unconventional, beautiful and full of layers, colours and liveliness. Zooey Deschanel as well. She doesn’t take herself too seriously and is always seriously focused.

One thing about fashion you are not too fond of-

The fact that labels and money is sometimes overlooked for design and style.

alic

Your favorite trend of all times-

Sequins, probably. And florals, those two are just always tops in my book.

The one trend you wish to wipe off the face of this earth-

Overt sexuality. I like something understated, whispering is more interesting than shouting.

alice

One item in your closet you can’t live without-

My PJs. They make me feel so free and happy.

The sites you follow-

I love Sea of Shoes, just because Jane seems like the most lovely girl and I love her odd mix of everything. Garance Dore takes some of the most honest portraits I’ve ever seen and I’ve always loved the documentation style of photography that is character of Jak and Jil.

alicc

Bags/shoes or shades?-

Bags and shoes! I hardly wear shades, it’s hard not seeing people’s eyes when you talk to them.

If you were not blogging about fashion, you would be blogging about-

Photography, film and art. I love all art forms.

alll

Your autobiography would be called-

I don’t know yet, it hasn’t been completed.

Your favorite places to shop/ Your favorite designers-

Lanvin, Luella Bartley and any thrift stores. They are always full with the sketchiest people and the most wonderous treasures to discover.

Sneakers and Dresses – Yes Please!

IMG_0034

When you don’t have a job, the necessity of coming up with new outfits every day grinds to a halt. It is tougher to innovate when inspirational inputs are lacking, and endlessly sifting through job posts is hardly motivating. I try to keep my sanity by dressing up anyway. The brighter the colors, the more fun!

Picture 6

Besides sending resumes, my main function is to walk our dogs, so I’ve been on a casual tip in terms of shoes. These colorful cutie sneakers are Harajuku Lovers and they inspired the rest of the outfit. It’s my second pair of Harajuku sneaks and I picked them up on eBay for $30 on a last minute bid. I’m officially hooked on the comfort and “fun” factor of Harajuku Lovers shoes.

Color Crazy: Royal Blue and Black

Ok! It’s not rocket science. Royal Blue and Black is – was – and will be a great color combination. If you consider black to be a “safe” color and you want to experiment a little with something out of your usual comfort zone, royal blue is a great start because it is no too far away from black in terms of effect. Here’s a little inspiration on how to bring all your black accessories into 2009: by adding a little royal blue!

At Aquascutum and Michael Kors, a black belt adds definition to the knee-high dresses. Complete the look with a black clutch.

Sheer materials are a hit this season and the royal blue world is no exception. At Costume National the sheer black material is a perfect canvas for royal blue sequins, while Vera Wang creates a delicate sheer overlay for a royal blue dress.

Two piece combos can be as sophisticated or as simple as you prefer. Sonia Rykiel achieves a very luxurious look with this silk blue and black suit. The fishnet socks and ankle tie pants is definitely a look worth replicating. Paul Smith on the other hand, plays with the shape of the pant and the uses a scarf as a belt to add dimension and exaggerate the waist in it’s smallest point.

A Little Burberry Never Hurt Anyone

IMG_0002

We love bringing our swag to the beach! Especially when it’s this nice out. I was feeling “Betty Boop-luxurious”, so I whipped out one of the only real designer pieces I own – The Burberry Shirt (thank you Juliana!!!).

Once I got home, I had to do a shoe upgrade because these Adrienne Vittadini shoes are really what I wanted to wear with the outfit. As any shoe lover, I will keep my patent away from the sand, thank you very much! I should also mention that we finally got a proper camera so you will no longer be pained by blurry iPhone pictures.
